Burrage and Dudeney win in Wrexham Open second round

Jodie Burrage and Alicia Dudeney won in straight sets on day two of the Lexus Wrexham Open, and Hannah Klugman also reached Thursday's second round.

Jodie Burrage and Alicia Dudeney both won in straight sets on day two of the Lexus Wrexham Open, putting two more British players into the second round of the W100 event. Hannah Klugman had already booked her place in Thursday’s action.

Burrage, a familiar face in Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup team, opened the day’s play with a 6-2 7-5 win over Dutchwoman Eva Vedder, who is ranked 180th in the world. She now meets Germany’s Noma Noha Akugue, the fourth seed, in round two.

Dudeney is British number seven and ranked 232nd. She beat another German, Tessa Johanna Brockmann, 6-4 6-4. Her next opponent is Switzerland’s Susan Bandecchi, the seventh seed.

Siskova beats Charaeva

The result of the day elsewhere came from Czech player Anna Siskova. She beat Alina Charava in three sets, 4-6 6-3 6-2, after dropping the opening set. Charaeva, who is Armenian, had earlier this month beaten world number one Elena Rybakina at the China Open.

Xu absent

The champion from last year is missing from the draw. Mimi Xu, from Swansea, is not defending her title and has chosen to play the W75 Saguenay tournament in Canada.

The Wrexham Open is staged at the Wrexham Tennis and Padel Centre and runs from 18 to 25 October. BBC Sport is showing coverage live online and on BBC iPlayer. Burrage, Dudeney and Klugman are all in second-round action on Thursday.
