Founded: 1880 · Ground: Etihad Stadium
Manchester City started life in 1880 as St Mark’s (West Gorton), changed its name to Ardwick and then became Manchester City in 1894. For most of the twentieth century it lived in the shadow of its neighbours across town. That changed after the 2008 takeover, which turned the club into a regular title contender.
Under Pep Guardiola the team won the Premier League four years in a row from 2020-21 to 2023-24 and, in 2022-23, added the Champions League and the FA Cup to complete a treble. Home games are played at the Etihad Stadium in east Manchester, which was built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
