The Lakers began in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers and moved to Los Angeles in 1960. The name comes from Minnesota’s lakes and was kept even after the move.
They have won 17 NBA titles, level with Boston until the Celtics took a lead in 2024. The franchise has had Hall of Famers at almost every stage, including George Mikan, Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. The team plays at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.
