Founded: 1878 · Ground: Old Trafford
Manchester United were founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR, a team formed by railway workers, and took their present name in 1902. Old Trafford has been their home since 1910, apart from a short spell after wartime bomb damage.
United have won 20 top-flight titles and three European Cups, in 1968, 1999 and 2008. Most of that success came under Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson. The ground is nicknamed the Theatre of Dreams.
