Real Sociedad beat Malaga 5-2 at La Rosaleda on Sunday, pulling clear in the second half with goals from Mikel Oyarzabal (twice) and Gonçalo Guedes after Malaga had briefly threatened to level the game.
The visitors were ahead after three minutes. Hector Fort set up Takefusa Kubo, who scored the opening goal of this La Liga round-nine match. Orri Steinn Óskarsson made it 2-0 in the 26th minute. Jon Martin was booked in the 37th minute, and Real Sociedad led by two at the break.
Malaga got back into it nine minutes after the restart. Pablo Martínez Andrés provided the pass and Adrian Nino scored in the 54th minute to make it 2-1.
The hosts did not hold that momentum for long. Kubo laid on a goal for Oyarzabal in the 59th minute, restoring the two-goal lead at 3-1. Mamadou Sarr was booked for Real Sociedad in the 62nd minute.
Malaga answered again in the 66th. Martínez Andrés, who had created the first goal, scored one himself to make it 3-2 and leave the game live. It stayed that way for exactly one minute. In the 67th, Oyarzabal scored his second, this time set up by Martin, and the lead was back to two.
Guedes then added the fifth in the 73rd minute to settle the match. No further goals or cards were recorded.
Kubo finished with a goal and an assist, and Oyarzabal had two goals and the pass for Martin’s role in the fourth, which was an assist for the winger. Martin’s yellow card and Sarr’s were the only bookings in the match.
