Lyon 2-1 Nice: Hosts hold on after Nakamura red card

Pavel Šulc and Tanner Tessmann scored in four minutes as Lyon beat Nice at Groupama Stadium despite playing the last 20 minutes with ten men.

Lyon beat Nice 2-1 in Ligue 1 at Groupama Stadium on Sunday, turning the game round with two goals in four minutes in the first half and then holding out with ten men after Keito Nakamura was sent off.

Nice had the lead early. Sepe Elye Wahi scored in the 18th minute from a Jonathan Clauss assist, a goal that followed a yellow card for Niels Nkounkou in the 10th minute.

Lyon answered in the 32nd minute through Pavel Šulc, who levelled the score. Four minutes later they were ahead. Tanner Tessmann scored in the 36th minute, with Zachary Athekame providing the assist. That made it 2-1 and it stayed that way.

Nice picked up bookings after the break. Mohamed Abdelmoneim was cautioned in the 48th minute and Mohamed Amoura followed in the 65th.

The match changed shape in the 70th minute, when Nakamura received a red card and Lyon were reduced to ten players. Nice had the numerical advantage for the final 20 minutes plus stoppage time, but the hosts kept their lead. Wahi, the visitors’ scorer, was booked in the 90+4th minute.

The result gives Lyon the win in their seventh league match of the Ligue 1 season. Nice leave with a defeat and with four players cautioned in total across the game.
