Manchester United have gone six games without a win for the first time since 2019 after a draw at Leeds in the Premier League. Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin levelled for the home side.
BBC Sport’s player ratings made Calvert-Lewin the standout on the day with an 8. He started quietly, then headed wide in the first half and straight at Senne Lammens in the second. He was strong enough to control the ball and finish for the equaliser, which came from a Tarik Muharemovic header. Mbeumo, rated 7, was not strong enough to hold him off.
Mbeumo’s own goal came from an excellent Youri Tielemans cross. He had started in an inside left role that BBC Sport called not a natural one for him, and he missed a first-half header he should have scored. James Justin was caught on his heels by the Cameroon forward for that goal.
Fernandes still searching for form
Bruno Fernandes was rated 6 in what the BBC described as a difficult season for the United captain. He overhit a free-kick in a dangerous position and sent it out for a throw, then was booked for a late tackle on Muharemovic. “Everything seems forced and a struggle at the moment,” the BBC’s assessment read.
There were more positive notes for United in midfield. Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba, both rated 7, supplied energy together, and Santos’s display raised the question of why he had been used so sparingly before. Lammens, also a 7, made a good save to deny Nico Elvedi.
United’s back line was again makeshift. Leny Yoro started at right-back and faced a stern physical test, and Diogo Dalot filled in at left-back, another different option in that spot. Lisandro Martinez kept his place despite recent inflammatory comments, was cheered by United fans and booed by Leeds supporters, and was replaced by Noussair Mazraoui at half-time. Mazraoui made a vital block in injury time.
For Leeds, James Trafford was rated 7 for racing 30 yards out of his box to clear. Lukas Nmecha, on for Noah Okafor in the 72nd minute, got the lowest mark of either side with a 5. Gabriel Gudmundsson and Ao Tanaka both came out of the game with ratings of 7 and 6, and Gudmundsson was booked for catching Santos from behind.
