Nottingham Forest Draw 1-1 at Ipswich, Climb Out of Bottom Three

Forest end a run of three straight league defeats but stay winless after more missed chances at Portman Road.

Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 at Ipswich Town in the Premier League, ending a run of three straight league defeats and lifting themselves out of the relegation zone on goal difference. The point came with familiar frustration, though. Forest wasted another set of chances and their winless run goes on.

The result counts as a small step forward for a side that had lost three league games in a row. Climbing out of the bottom three, even by the narrow margin of goal difference, eases some of the immediate pressure. But it’s a slim cushion, and one result elsewhere could undo it.

Chances go begging again

The night followed a pattern that has hurt Forest recently. They created openings at Portman Road but couldn’t turn enough of them into goals, and so a game that could have ended their winless spell finished level instead.

That wastefulness is now the main concern. When a team keeps getting into good positions without scoring, a draw can feel closer to a missed opportunity than a recovery. Forest left Suffolk with a point, and with the sense that it should have been more.

Questions after Palace

The draw came after a defeat to Palace that had raised questions about Forest’s mentality, with BBC Sport asking whether the side had a deeper problem than results alone. Stopping the losing run answers part of that. Forest still need a win to end the talk properly.

For Ipswich, a draw against a direct rival near the foot of the table keeps them in touch, though they couldn’t stop Forest from climbing above the dropzone.
