Bruno Fernandes home burgled during Man Utd’s Como trip

The Manchester United captain's Cheshire house was broken into on Wednesday while the squad was in Italy for their Champions League match.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his home burgled on Wednesday while he was in Italy for the club’s Champions League game against Como, according to BBC Sport.

It is understood Fernandes’ family were not in the house in Cheshire at the time. The intruders are believed to have been inside for less than five minutes before police arrived. United are understood to be supporting the 32-year-old after the break-in. BBC Sport has contacted Cheshire Police about the incident.

Fernandes is the latest footballer to have a family home targeted while he was away playing. Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and his former girlfriend Maya Jama had their Cheshire home burgled in similar circumstances. Dias was at City’s Champions League game against Galatasaray in January when it happened. Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez are among other players in the same area who have been victims in the past.

A difficult night for United

The burglary came on top of a bad result on the pitch. United lost 4-1 to Como, and after the match Fernandes criticised the tactics of manager Michael Carrick.

The Portugal midfielder will stay on as captain and will not be disciplined for those comments. Fernandes has been at Old Trafford since joining from Sporting in January 2020.
